Disasters Emergency Committee

A full organisational review.

The Client

The Disaster Emergency Committee is a coalition of international humanitarian charities which has raised over £1 billion since its launch in the 1960s.

The Challenge

The CEO and leadership team wanted to assess whether the current staff capacity, including themselves, and structure was fit for purpose to deliver the future strategy of the organization. This was to ensure the organisation would be able to work alongside and effectively with its member organisations.

The Solution

Hafton gained comprehensive input from all member agencies, gathered some detailed information through one-to-one meetings with all staff and a selection of trustees and member organisations, reviewed key organisational documents and information and designed and implemented a staff survey.

Hafton then produced a thorough analysis of the internal functions and roles for inclusion in its organisational review report. More importantly Hafton gave clear recommendations about options for changes in the organisation’s structure.

Hafton was asked to give support with the implementation of the staff changes with on-going advice to CEO and senior staff.

The Outcome

  • A concise report with clear analysis and recommendations
  • A report linked to an employee satisfaction survey resulting in an action plan with quick wins
  • An overview of core competencies

Since the review the organisation has developed a strong leadership team and has had good feedback from its member agencies about its performance. It continues to run successful appeals on behalf of its members.

Anna managed to complete not just the review, but a People in Aid employee survey and a salary benchmarking exercise within an incredibly short space of time. She produced a clear and concise report for the Board of Trustees with workable recommendations.

Anna has an excellent understanding of organisations and used her knowledge to shape her thinking and was able to use the right level of analytical skills for this assignment. Both staff and trustees were comfortable sharing confidential information with Anna which illustrates her integrity and strong people skills.

We are looking forward to implementing the recommendations she made.
